FAQ about Spiritual Direction

  • Typically, once per month. More or less frequency can also be requested.

  • Have an initial conversation with at least 2-3 people and discern who you feel the best rapport with!

  • Mark’s spiritual direction rate is $100 for a 5o minute session.

If money is a concern, be sure to discuss with Mark to find a workable solution.

  • Mark meets with diretcees in-person at the Ignatius House Retreat Center on the Chattahoochee River in Sandy Springs, GA, about 5 miles from downtown Atlanta. He has office space there on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month.

Mark is also happy to meet with diretcees via a HIPPA compliant online portal.

  • For the first session, an open heart and mind and a willingness to share your spiritual journey is all that is needed.

For ongoing sessions: look back over movements in your life and your meditative and prayer practices.

Journaling is a helpful way to remember and prepare.

  • Spiritual direction is not a relationship between teacher and student, so there is no “homework” per se. Occasionally, a spiritual director might suggest a spiritual text, a resource, or a suggestion for a prayer or meditation practice but there is no requirement on the part of the directee to follow through.

  • Honesty is always best. Depending on how long you have been meeting, you may want to discuss with your director in person, or write an email or text to let the director know that you want to move on.

Mark is happy to assist you with a referral for a different spiritual director should the need arise.
